The Institution of Data Scientists and Analysts (IDSA)

The Institution of Data Scientists and Analysts is a professional and membership-based organization for data scientists, data analysts, data engineers, academics and individuals who show interest in the field. The Institution serves its members, develop and advance the profession of data science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Data Analytics, increasing diversity, and advancing ethical data science in Nigeria, Africa and across the globe.

The Institution of Data Scientists and Analysts is committed to supporting the data science profession with practical resources for data professionals while improving the practice of data science, science and establishing model ethical codes. IDSA provide a platform for our members to share insights and expertise, collaborate and build networks in the industry and to foster innovation in the sector. We are fully supported in our mission by leading organisations in the public and private sectors. Corporate member organisations can ensure their staff members are kept fully up to date on new developments in the sector by attending our Continuous Professional Development courses and programs.

All members will also have access to analytics training programmes designed around members’ specific training requirements. We host quarterly networking events and user groups so that analytics professionals can make new friends and build contacts in the field. All our events except otherwise indicated are free of charge to members including corporate bodies. Our organisation works with government at all levels, corporate bodies and academia to promote cooperation, research and employment growth in the data science and analytics.

We support career development and skills building through our free courses for young women and men in partnership with international organizations in the fields of data science, software development, big data, artificial intelligence, machine learning and information technology. The Institution carries out national research and publicise our results finding.

IDSA transforms careers and companies for a data-driven world. Professional Certification

IDSA Professional Certification in Data Science

prepares students to expand their career prospects or change career paths by developing foundational data science skills. Candidates for the Professional Certification, a non-degree, part-time program, are required to complete a minimum of four required courses: Algorithms for Data Science, Probability and Statistics for Data Science, Machine Learning for Data Science, and Exploratory Data Analysis and Visualization. You will learn:

  • Apply various Data Science and Machine Learning skills, techniques, and tools to complete a project and publish a report.
  • Practice with various tools used by Data Scientists and become experienced in using some of them like Jupyter notebooks.
  • Master the key steps involved in tackling a data science problem and learn to follow a methodology to think and work like a Data Scientist.
  • Write SQL to query databases and explore relational database concepts.
  • Understand Python and practice Python programming using Jupyter.

Director General

Dr. Peter Olugbenga Adeleye serves as the Acting Director General, the Institution of Data Scientists and Analysts. He is also the Head, Human Resources, Science and Technology Cluster Committee of the African Union ECOSOCC Nigeria. Until now, he serves as National Coordinator, African Centre for Citizens Orientation, an NGO in special consultative status with United Nations ECOSOC. Peter Olugbenga Adeleye is a fellow of the Public Health Institute, USA, an information technology expert, data scientist, human rights educator, digital rights activist, and an entrepreneur with over twenty-three years’ experience in programming, Information Technology, data science, youth development, girls child education, project development, community safety, education, and entrepreneurship. Kayode Olasemi is an experienced Statistician with a practical view of the use of data, to improve business operation and strategic planning. He studied at the University of Ibadan, Ibadan Nigeria where he had his Masters Degree, Bachelor of Science Degree and Professional In Statistics. He has astute academician and senior research with top organizations within Nigeria and overseas.

Opeyemi U. Lawal, PhD., fidsa

Research & Development

Dr. Lawal is a Molecular Biologist and Bioinformatician with over 12 years experience in life science research with scholarly contributions. He holds a PhD in Molecular Biosciences from the Institute for Chemical and Biological Technology, New University of Lisbon (ITQB-NOVA), Portugal and he is presently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Canadian Research Institute for Food Safety, University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada. He leverages his molecular and bioinformatic skills to understand the evolution of human pathogens. He recently co-founded Voices in STEM-Nigeria (VISNG), an NGO established to promote STEM including scholarship opportunities for youths in Nigeria and Africa by extension. He is a recipient of several competitive scholarly grants, fellowships, and humanitarian awards.

Engr. Aderonke Oyetoke, fidsa

Cooperate Services

Toyosi Aderonke Oyetoke studied Electrical Engineering at the Polytechnic Ibadan and had served in different capacities as an Engineer, researcher and project manager. She had worked in various organizations including Space FM Ibadan, Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), Star Times, Power Holding Company of Nigeria Plc with vast knowledge of broadcast, telecoms and power engineering. Toyosi Aderonke is an astute advocate of a secure society and she is a founding member of the Youth Crime Watch Nigeria. In 2015, Toyosi won the Youth of the Year award organized during the second edition of the Africa Regional Youth Crime Prevention and Development Conference.

Analytics for Business

Bukola Adeleye is the Chief Executive Officer, Pan African Institute for Entrepreneurship and Community Development, an Institute in special consultative status with United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC) and United Nations Habitat University Partners Initiative. She is an expert business developer, a project accountant, educator and curriculum developer. She has facilitated series of projects and support for women and young people in schools and communities in Nigeria.
